Socrates/Erasmus Programme

The Department of Art History at Stockholm University has Socrates/Erasmus bilateral agreements with the following universities:

Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main /Germany
Freie Universität Berlin, Germany
Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain
Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), France
Université Rennes 2-Haute Bretagne, France
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium
Università degli studie di Lecce, Italy
University of Bergen, Norway

This means that students, who read Art history at these universities have the possibility to study at our department for one semester or one academic year.

The prerequisites are at least a full academic year with passed results in Art history. The students are also supposed to have a good basic knowledge of Swedish and English before his/her arrival.

Students interested in studying at our department should apply through their exchange coordinator or through the International Office at his/her home university. The application should be sent to the international coordinator at the Department of Art History, Elsie Dickson, see below.

Nordlys Network and Central university-wide exchange agreements
Students can also apply to study at our department through the Nordlys Network and through Central university-wide exchange agreements. These exchange agreements are administrated by the International Student Office at Stockholm University.

Language of instruction

All courses at the Department of Art History are taught in Swedish, but most of the literature are normally in English. However the exchange student are free to write his/her exams and papers in English and eventually also in other languages.

Swedish language courses
International students may apply for Swedish language training at Beginner´s Level. You must have been admitted to studies at our department through one of the exchange programmes named above to be able to participate. For further information see
